- Rex was nicknamed Mouse due to his big ears. Circa 1968-1969
" I was relieved of duty
the morning of February 21, 1969 since my tour was over. Anyone else could take Mouse out, if I wasn't
around. Tom (not sure of his
last name) took him out because his dog was off duty for some reason. They were riding around with the
supervisor, when the base was hit with a mortar barrage. The base took about 100
mortars rounds, and the bad guys were headed for the bomb dump. , The Supervisor
and Tom responded to the threatened ammo storage area. The fight was in close,
within grenade range. In the fight, Rex was killed by a
bullet in the head. I left Vietnam, without being able to say to my best
friend."
